Introduced in 1954 as the successor to the
GP-7 road switcher, the EMD GP-9 proved to be even more
popular with the railroads than its predecessor. With over
3500 units produced in a 6 year span, the 1750 hp GP-9 could
be found in one form or another on most roads in the U.S. and
Canada.
